The challenge
Blink came to us with a major challenge: building an app with a tight development timeline of just one month. We knew we were facing an extraordinary challenge. That reduced schedule forced us to optimize every phase of the development process to ensure the final product was delivered on time.
Blink initially presented us with a layout that didn’t meet real user needs. Committed to delivering the best possible experience, we proposed a complete redesign of the app. That led to a full design overhaul, expanding the project’s scope. We quickly adapted our approach to incorporate these changes while keeping quality and user experience front and center.
It was crucial that the app provide accurate customer information, including data such as speed and consumption for both residential and mobile internet. This data is highly dynamic and specific, constantly changing based on customer behavior. That represented one of the project’s most complex challenges, requiring meticulous technical solutions to ensure the accuracy and constant updating of this information.
Objective
Develop an Android and iOS app that captured Blink’s essence, reflecting its modernity and ultra-fast connectivity. Key features: invoice viewing, mobile and residential internet consumption, mobile and residential internet speed, service contracting through a virtual showcase, and access to Blink Play and Blink Multi.
Solution delivered
The process was structured into two distinct stages: the first focused on interface design, and the second on application development.
During the interface design phase, we worked with Blink’s team to gather system requirements, product and business information, features, strategies, target audience, and customer pain points and needs. We prioritized the design system and incorporated the visual language known as Glassmorphism, a design approach using transparent, glass-like elements with different textures. This choice was made to express Blink’s concept of technology, modernity, and ultra-fast connectivity, and that of its mascot Íris, creating an experience aligned with the brand’s concepts and engaging for its users.
During application development, we chose React Native for its ability to provide a single codebase for both Android and iOS. To make sending and printing invoices easier, we used the react-native-share library. Data integration was handled via API.
We built a showcase from scratch to present residential, mobile, and combo plans, delivering a personalized experience for users. We also created an API to power a dynamic FAQ, eliminating the need for frequent app updates.
We implemented a support channel routed through WhatsApp, ensuring fast and effective communication for users. The biggest challenge was building an algorithm from scratch to represent consumption and speed information in an animated chart that was friendly and easy to understand. This algorithm automatically populates the chart with each user’s specific information, delivering a personalized and intuitive experience.
Today, we run a data-consumption layer built into a user-friendly interface integrated with an API. A data-processing pipeline will be implemented there to simplify and speed up maintenance tasks.
